Good addition to Pinup style collection

Over all quality of the book is pretty good. Has a verity of styles from different artists and from different time periods. Some I liked quite a bit others not so much. Has some humor, some classic, some bad girl style, some horror, some comic, and some cute. Over all a good addition to pinup style collection.

Reader's Favorite...Four stars!****The Beach House Mystery by Tara Ellis is Book 3 of an on-going series, but it can be read on its own. This was a surprisingly good book, given the fact that it is written in present tense and I usually don't like novels written like that. The story follows two girls, Sam and her friend Ally, who visit a beach where Sam's father is restoring an old boat. What was supposed to be a good vacation on the sand and surf turns out to be a mystery that desperately needs to be solved.

There is a lot going on: there is a sea monster, a mystery of the founder of the town, the lighthouse has a mystery of its own, and there is a ghost that is still looking for her husband. Needless to say, the two girls need help and they get it from Sam's brother Hunter and his friend John. Together, the foursome needs to solve these mysteries before something big happens. But with so many forces against them, can they do it?

Boy, this was a roller coaster ride that I loved. Sam and Ally are such cool kids. The story reminded me a lot of many R.L. Stine books that I used to read all the time. The dialogues are great and the story is very invigorating. I really loved the fact that the story was more about the mystery. It was focused and that made it more entertaining. The characters were strong and very well-developed. Tara Ellis is a really good writer, and she knows what she is doing, so that made the experience even better.

Author Tara Ellis lives in a small, rural town in Washington State, set in the beautiful Pacific Northwest. She enjoys the quiet lifestyle with her husband, two teenage kids and several dogs. Tara was a firefighter/EMT (yes, you read that right) and worked in the medical field for many years, before committing herself to writing young adult and middle grade novels full-time after life threw the MS curve-ball at her. Another successful addition to the Sam Wolf Mysteries

Another delightful adventure from the Samantha Wolf Mystery series. Not being familiar with US geography, I checked Google maps again to follow the intriguing coastal descriptions of Washington State and Oregon. Tara' Ellis' novels are definitely educational.

Twelve-year-old Sam is a wonderful role model for middle-grade readers who are looking for exciting and intelligent mystery and adventure. She's such a resourceful, courageous and loyal character--very likeable. In 'The Beach House Mystery' once again she's joined by best friend and fellow sleuth, Ally. With the help of Sam's older brother, Hunter and his friend, John, the kids unite to solve a mystery that involves spooky night stuff on the beach including wailing voices, rolling fogs and an old lighthouse. The action ramps up when they meet their holiday neighbours and soon find themselves entangled with adult criminals.

I especially enjoy the strong theme of friendship in the Sam Wolf Mysteries. The banter between the kids is natural and convincing. The stories are cosy and wholesome with just enough action, excitement and adventure to make them very suitable for middle grade readers.

A fun, fast paced middle grade mystery

I absolutely love these middle grade mystery stories. I loved them when I was in that age group and I love them now. This one definitely did not disappoint.

Sam and Ally are once again caught up in a mystery while visiting a beach house near where Sam's dad is overseeing the remodel of a boat. This time, they get their brothers John and Hunter involved. There's a lot of mystery surrounding a lighthouse and a legend about the founder of the town disappearing in the late 1800s and a sea monster and a ghost that haunts the waters, searching for her lost husband. All together it makes for an intriguing story.

The ocean and lighthouses fascinate me, so I was excited for this book and I'm glad I read it. It's a fun mystery for anyone, not just middle grade readers.

While it didn't detract from the story there were some minor editing problems throughout and in the first five or six chapters John and Hunter's names were mixed up which took me a minute to straighten out. Again, this didn't decrease my enjoyment, but be aware that you may run into this if you read.

Wonderful story!

I grew up on the Trixie Beldon and Nancy Drew books. This author is in the same league, but the stories are set in a more modern era. Kids nowadays will enjoy the author's inclusion of smart phones, texting, and similar understandings of how 12 year olds currently live. I like how the author respects that pre-teens and young teens are intelligent, yet still make good and bad choices, and creates characters that show this. Too many middle grade authors create characters this age that are still pretty dumb. The story also treats the reader as intelligent, allowing the reader to slowly figure out the mystery along with the characters of Sam and Ally. I'm in my 50's, but still love a good mystery. Love this author! I'll be reading the others in this series!

Bridging relationships with God and Man through Mary

This book is useful for those Catholics and other Christians that somewhat understand devotion to Mary, and also for those for whom Mary is a stumbling block. The ecumenical thrust of this book is one of its great benefits. Fr. Cantalamessa goes to great lengths to provide scripture and theological explanations for such beliefs as Mary's role as Theotokos, for her intercession, and more generally for the relationship which each Christian ought to have with her. In addition to reflecting directly on Mary, Fr. Cantalamessa uses these reflections as diving off points for reflecting on other theological themes, such as grace, prayer, and the Holy Spirit. A beautiful and rich portrait emerges from these pages, of a soul filled with the Holy Spirit, and serving as an example and aid for others.

A Traditional, Ecumenical Understanding of Mary

Fr. Cantalamessa's book on Mary is unique in that he does not treat Catholic teaching on Mary defensively, as something to be protected from Protestant objections, but rather shows how Mary can be a symbol of unity, a common model of the Christian life for all Christians. And he manages to do this while explaining an orthodox, Catholic understanding of Mary's role in the Church.

The book is divided into three sections, examining Mary's role in Jesus' birth, in His death and resurrection, and lastly her role in Pentecost and the continuing life of the Church. Fr. Cantalamessa makes strong use of Scripture in laying out Catholic doctrine and dogma on Mary, giving the reader a good understanding of the Gospel's context for what we know of her, and thus providing a good bridge for Protestants who would distrust Catholic tradition and the writings of the saints. Also of particular interest is Cantalamessa's synthesis of homilies and writings by prominent Reformers like Luther, Calvin and Zwingli.

To round out the ecumenical appeal, the book has several beautiful color photos of some Marian icons, which Fr. Cantalamessa has said greatly increased his understanding of Mary's life and relationship with her son. Combined with citations of the Eastern Fathers to demonstrate the historical roots of doctrines like the Immaculate Conception (or "panagia", "all holy", in Greek), provides a window into the Eastern Church's perspective on Mary.

Fr. Cantalamessa obviously has a great devotion to Mary, but it is tempered with a recognition that the greatest purpose of contemplating Mary is so that we can imitate her as the model follower of her son, Jesus. He also acknowledges that there is no one single "right" devotion towards Mary, as it varies according to each individual's spiritual path, and this moderation goes far to help ease those who fear that being a good Catholic necessitates some undue, if not idolatrous, devotion towards the Blessed Virigin. His writing is well-organized and accessible, and is suffused with a spirit of fraternity and charity towards all Christians. This is an ideal introduction to Mariology.

About the Author
Robert N. Lussier is Professor of Management at Springfield College. Having taught management for more than 25 years, he has developed innovative and widely copied methods for applying concepts and developing skills that can be used personally and professionally. A prolific writer, Dr. Lussier has more than 350 publications to his credit, including other best selling textbooks (such as Management Fundaments: Concepts, Applications, Skill Development, also by South-Western/Cengage) and articles published in Academy of Entrepreneurship Journal, Business Horizons, Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice, Journal of Management Education, Journal of Small Business Management, Family Business Review, and Journal of Small Business Strategy and many others. He served as founding director of Israel Programs and taught courses in Israel. His international experience also stretches to Namibia and South Africa. He holds a bachelor of science in business administration from Salem State College, master's degrees in education and business administration from Suffolk University, and a doctorate in management from the University of New Haven.

Very poor quality printing & binding

This is a good text book. However, the poor quality of the printing and binding of the copy I received is irritating to say the least. The print is kind of blurred like an old photocopy, the cover is detached and some of the pages are loose, I have to keep it together with a rubber band. I will not purchase a second hand book from Amazon ever again.

Wrong book/slow shipping

Do not order from this listing. The book I received was not the book I ordered, it was not in color, and it had stickers all over the cover hiding what I wasn't supposed to see. I also ordered the book on January 2nd and did not receive it until today. I am very upset with this service.

A terrible translation of a beautiful play

Friedrich D�rrenmatt's play Der Besuch der alten Dame is a milestone in German language drama, one of the most significant pieces in the twentieth century. The Maurice Valency "adaptation" is barely a suggestion of the original. Obviously some things must be lost in the translation, but Valency makes unjustifiable decisions: entire scenes are excised, a great deal of dialogue has been trimmed from scenes that didn't need it, Valency has written his own scenes in, he's moved things around, and then on top of all of that he changed the main character's name for reasons that elude me. If at all possible, find another translation of this play, whether you intend to perform it or just to read it; the Valency version is a sin.
